Family for Beginners by Sarah Morgan

Image
When I read Sarah Morgan's novels, I imagine her sat in the office at the bottom of the garden, candles lit and the mood set. She invites her characters in for therapy, laying down comfortably, she asks them to tell her what happens, the only dictate being that they are honest with her, even if they can't be honest with themselves. I hope this is true, but whatever way she does it her characters and their angst did their joys, come straight from the heart. It's rare for family members to tell each other everything but Sarah's writing gives the reader the birds eye view, which helps us understand the characters when they don’t understand themselves. A truly heart-warming book about love, friendships, grief, honesty and forgiveness. If you are looking for gratuitous sex scenes, you understandably wont find them here. For me that makes to budding relationship between Murph and Sky more realistic. Though there were a couple of scenes which may come across rushed, they in no way take away from the plot.  It’s rare for me not to predict the twist in a tale but Ms. St. ...
