The Christmas Escape by Sarah Morgan

Love is more than just romance, it’s family

When the world was pulling me in all directions, reading Sarah Morgan’s latest release, The Christmas Escape was the perfect escape for a few hours a night.

From the outside looking in, both Christy and Alix have different but perfect lives. Christy, with her husband Seb and young daughter Holly, a home in the country and a Christmas holiday to look forward to in Lapland. Alix, Christy’s best friend, will be joining them after a prestigious award ceremony in New York for her work. But nothing is ever perfect and when Christy asks her friend to travel alone with her daughter cracks start to appear.

Sarah Morgan captures the fears and anxiety of both woman with her dual narrative story. As Alix, Holly and Zac, the man Alix has been actively avoiding for five years, leave for Christy’s long lost aunt’s Lapland resort, she is filled with doubts, she can’t be responsible for a young, rambunctious, yet utterly adorable child. To make matters worse, Alix is concerned about what could be so important for Christy remain behind as she takes Holly to the aunt she has never met before.

Christy feels as if her world is falling apart, her marriage is starting to show cracks, her house is falling down and she can’t help but silently blame her best friend for the way is she feeling.

It is not an easy feat to write about the flaws in the closest of friendships without wanting to take a side, but Sarah manages to make you feel for both women, their own preconceptions, and ignorance clouding their view when they act on instinct without looking deeper.

Unusually for contemporary fiction this book is more about the bond of friendship between two women, as if the men in their lives are solely there to help point them back towards each other.

This is a truly delightful read, with Holly bringing the humour, don’t get caught kissing, as in her eyes that is tantamount to a proposal. Robyn, Christy’s aunt brings depth to the story and explains a lot about how Christy has led her life and the effect that has had on those she loves most.

I give #TheChristmasEscape 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 and thank Sarah Morgan, publishers HQStories and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this wonderful festive story.
