Summer at the French Café by Sue Moorcroft

 


There was something about this story that I didn’t get along with, it took me a month to read, and at times, I just wanted to give up, which is a rarity for me. 

Don’t get me wrong there was part of the book I did enjoy, Angelique being the main part, but some there is a lot of negative characters, step mum, ex-boyfriend, woman scorned, coercive husband, absent father, untrustworthy friends. This is just a few too many negative tropes for me to get behind.

 

That being said, this may have been what the author was going for, and I was probably not in the right frame of mind for such a story, there are parts of the story I did enjoy, just I did have high expectations for a story centred around a coffee/book shop in a French park so it’s 🌟🌟🌟 from me.

This Christmas by Emma Heatherington

  What a cosy feel, good read.   I love Emma Heatherington’s latest book, it combines some of my favourite things, cosy feels, a dog, a suitable love interest, the image of rural Ireland, and of course Christmas.    It is difficult to write something refreshing in the increasingly crowded market of festive fiction, but This Christmas is one of the standout stories of 2023, I highly recommend snuggling up with a mug of hot chocolate and something nice to nibble on whilst you are enveloped in this 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 star read. Probably the Best Kiss in the World by Pernille Hughes

I spent a weekend snuggled up in my living room with this  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ story, I enjoyed the characters almost as much as I wanted to knock some sense into them. Every single one of them was perfectly flawed, in as much I was rooting for them to succeed at the same time as shaking my head at their logic or lack thereof. It was most definitely the characters in this story that kept me reading, Jen being almost neurotic to Yakob.
